Monday Morning Bath: Colorado Rapids Bench
My Monday Morning Bath award for week 7 would have to go to the entire Colorado Rapids bench. During the dynamo - rapids game on Saturday night Colorado had two personnel ejected from the bench. The first being Assistant coach Gary Smith, for unknown reasons, other than the fact that he seemed very upset at the decisions of Tim Weyland. The other was Tom McManus, a player who put in a good 65 minutes but had a few choice words for the center official after calling a pk in the 87th minute. During the entire game Colorado's bench was the most animated I have seen from an MLS side, Clavijo and his cohorts up and down the sideline gesturing to his players and the referee the entire game. Keep your bench under control, it was like a zoo down there. Anyone who watched the game could clearly see this and who could blame Tim Weyland for sending off Smith and McManus. The constant badgering coming from the rapids bench along with players and coaches walking and pacing around the sideline with 4-5 people standing at a time. Personally I think the league needs to take further action on Colorado and the actions of the teams bench during the game, its a joke. You look at any other league in the world and you would never see this, its embarrassing. The only time you would ever see anyone off the bench would be if it was a substitute or a head coach trying to communicate with his players, not the whole bench with assistant coaches and players getting involved. Look at the highlights above, the actions of Clavijo, his staff, and players were embarrassing for the league and should not be tolerated.
